So. The 23rd was my birthday. I am now 49 going on 12…. I like Anime quite a bit but I don’t really fit the otaku mold. However I do like to do what I do here, so I guess I made a new mold. I started watching Anime back in the day when it wasn’t called Anime. You know when T.V was black and white and Astro Boy was fighting Tetsujin 28 (Gigantor) for most cheese in a robot series. Ultra 7  was still Ultra 1 .. 😛  Back in those days being true to the source material was not really what happened. In order to fit in the American market, series were cut up to censor anything remotely controversial and sometimes totally re-written. AAHHH the good old days! I don’t miss them a bit. I really got into Anime as Anime in the 80’s when i found Urusei Yatsura (Those Obnoxious Aliens) closely followed by Maison Ikkoku and then Ranma 1/2. Things really picked up in the early 90’s with the internet coming online and the ability to search for, and find new and exciting things. At that time fansubbing started to explode. You no longer had to pass copied and recopied video tapes and handwritten scripts around. Now you could just download an avi that was subbed! (homemade subbed videos were possible just hard to make) Thats when the Anime market started to heat up. Along came Belldandy (Oh! My Goddess)…then Lina Inverse (Slayers) and a slew of others. That was the golden age of American Anime markets. Today to find good anime you really have to dig and hope for the best. I am not saying todays Anime is bad just that I miss the longer stories that were produced then. These days if it doesn’t make millions in the first 12 or 13 episodes it’s hard to get a second or a third season. Bleach, Naruto, Fairy Tail and those like them are geared to be open-ended for the most part and tend to get old after a while (at least for me). So here is hoping for the return of epic story telling with plenty to watch and clear endings. (as clear as can be had…) So lets toast to another 49 years of Anime and birthdays!

I have THREE new music videos for everyone to enjoy today! First up is ~Farwell Song~ from the anime AIR. The next one is from Inuyasha ~-Come-~ an ending song I really liked. The third and not least is a live pv for ~Dolphin Jet~ the Umisho opening.     Farewell Song     Come     Dolphin Jet (re-interpreted)
